Phoenix Youth Programs

The incredible popularity of smartphones*, particularly the Apple iPhone, has resulted in a unique and exciting opportunity for Phoenix. A group of gifted software developers from Halifax, named Apps4Good, have created a fun and useful iPhone application (app**) called Meet Me Here. Proceeds of this clever app will be donated to Phoenix.

Dale Zak, a mobile software developer with Apps4Good, was inspired to put his skills to good use for the benefit of the local community.  In July of 2009, Dale and his peers hosted an event called iPhone Hackaton 4 Charity.  This two day event brought together software developers and graphic designers with the universal goal of building as many iPhone applications as possible. Profits from each application were to be donated to local Halifax charities. Phoenix is thrilled to be the charity chosen to receive the profits from the handy app Meet Me Here.

Meet Me Here was designed to allow users to send “meetup” information via email and Twitter.  This handy app is available for download at http://meetmehere.apps4good.ca/ and costs only $1.99.

While Phoenix is delighted to receive the proceeds of this app’s sale, we are even more pleased to have the opportunity to share our story with those shopping the iPhone application store.

Dale and his colleagues chose Phoenix because they believe in the positive goals of the organization. The team at Apps 4 Good are eager to support youth and help break the cycle of poverty.  Dale is a firm believer in social change and is keen to spread Phoenix’s message of hope and success for youth.

Apps4Good allows software developers the opportunity to support their community, while also networking, building business relationships and learning new skills.
 
This spring, Apps4Good will be hosting another iPhone Hackaton 4 Charity incorporating software developers from Halifax as well as Montreal and Saskatoon.  Growth of Hackathon will only lead to great support for local charitable organizations.  For this, Phoenix is extremely grateful.  Thank you to Dale Zak and his fellow software developers for using their skills to help better our community!
