Coordinator

The Phoenix Youth Outreach Program focuses on reaching out to provide services to at-risk youth aged 16-24 and their families in communities within the greater Halifax area. This program aims to build relationships with youth, families, community leaders and organizations to facilitate the provision of counselling, individual support, service referrals and programming for youth. The program incorporates our community development and housing support activities and consists of a team of six employees.

Phoenix is hiring a Coordinator to manage the program. We are looking for an innovative, energetic leader who has experience in program development, front-line experience working with youth, and the capacity to provide clinical and therapeutic support. The successful incumbent will have a passion for working with youth, and within a social justice and community development framework.

Program: Phoenix Youth Outreach Program

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Reports to: Director of Programming

Status: Full time, permanent

Start Date: As soon as possible

Compensation: A competitive salary, comprehensive group insurance plan, RRSP contribution, three weeks of vacation in the first year.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. with some flexibility and occasional evening and weekend work.

Screening Requirements: This position is subject to a criminal record check and a child abuse register check.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage all aspects of the programs including strategic planning, program development and implementation, community development, service delivery, financial management, communication and evaluation.
• Manage all activities related to personnel including program procedures, hiring, performance management, team building, professional development, files and scheduling.
• Support staff to work directly with youth by developing short and long term therapeutic relationships.
• Develop and maintain relationships with community partners integral to the success of the program and service delivery to youth.
• Advocate with community agencies on behalf of the program and its youth.
• Develop, gain approval for and maintain an annual income and expenditure budget for the program.
• Manage building maintenance and ensure a therapeutic milieu.
• Commit to the development of the Association and participate in internal committees, projects and activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master of Social Work or equivalent.
• Registration or Candidacy for Registration, certification or membership of a related professional body (if applicable).
• Professional liability insurance.
• A minimum of five years of experience in a management position with supervisory responsibilities.
• Clinical experience providing therapeutic counselling for youth preferred.
• Demonstrated skill using anti-oppressive practice (harm reduction, narrative practice, a client-directed approach and a social justice perspective).
• Demonstrated high level of understanding of youth development and the issues of homelessness.
• Demonstrated successful management practices including strategic planning, program development and implementation, community development, human resources, service delivery, financial management, communication and evaluation.
• Demonstrated leadership, supervision skills and ability to develop an effective team.
• Extensive knowledge of community resources, government funding and the social service delivery system is an asset.
• Non-violent crisis intervention (CPI), suicide intervention (ASIST), standard first aid or a commitment to secure those requirements within six months of being hired.
• Access to a vehicle.
• Experience working for a non-profit organization is an asset.
