The Phoenix Annual Tree Trimming and Open House

Tuesday, December 16th
Phoenix Youth Shelter
1094 Tower Road, Halifax, NS
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

The spirit of the Holiday Season is felt within the Phoenix Family thanks to the kind generosity of the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Producers Association. 2008 marks the eighth year in which a beautiful tree has been donated to Phoenix.  We welcome donors, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters of Phoenix to visit our Shelter to help trim the Christimas tree. During this annual event, guests are encouraged to interact with the youth. A short presentation is given, including a speech from one of the youth in our programs.

It is during this annual event that youth and supporters have an opportunity to share the same roof, share stories, and to cement a bond that lasts throughout the years. Our donors, sponsors, and partners feel a strong connection to the youth of Phoenix and a strong commitment to breaking the cycle of homelessness. Our youth have an opportunity to thank the community one-on-one for helping them to create better and brighter futures.

The Tradition Began...

During the former Nova Scotia Lieutenant Governor's first term, Her Honour Myra Freeman was given a tree from the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Producers Association. Her Honour asked that instead of the tree being at the Lieutenant Governor's house, could it instead be given to Phoenix Youth Programs. Since 2000, Phoenix youth have enjoyed a beautiful tree first at Phoenix House and then Phoenix Shelter for Youth when it opened in December of 2001. Many thanks to the Tree Producers Association for the continued gift and to Her Honour for continuing the tradition.

We are so grateful for your support!  Thank you to the many donors, sponsors, partners, volunteers, and friends that comprise the "Phoenix Family". We wish all of you the best of comfort and joy during the Holiday Season and into the New Year.
