RCMP Veterans Select Phoenix as Fundraising Recipient

On July 7th, the Nova Scotia Division of the RCMP Veteran’s Association presented Phoenix with an extremely generous financial donation. Through their spring fundraising initiative, well over $30,000 was raised in support of a number of charities across the Province. Phoenix was the selected charity from the Halifax Regional Municipality, and is honored to have received a gift from the Association of over $4,300.
The Association is comprised of retired RCMP officers living in Nova Scotia. Every spring, RCMP veterans from across the Province organize a lottery. Gary Grant, Chair of the RCMP Veterans Charity lottery says, “We’ve organized this fundraiser for a number of years now. Each year, our Association selects different charities in each of the regions we represent. In the Halifax area, we selected Phoenix. We’re pleased to be able to help fund their programs, as well as those of the other charities our members chose.”
The RCMP understands the value of the support that Phoenix offers at-risk and homeless youth. In the course of their duties, members have experienced first-hand the gaps in our society as our need for community-based services continues to grow. Through the work of volunteers and donors, such as the RCMP Veteran’s Association, Phoenix is able to provide programs and services to youth in our region that help to fill some of those gaps.
After presenting their donation, members of the Association participated in a tour of Phoenix Centre for Youth, and were able to see the environment in which many homeless and at-risk youth seek services and interact with one another. Phoenix is grateful to have benefited from the RCMP Veteran’s fundraising efforts, and is pleased to know that support for our youth is coming from former members of our national policing service.
