Phoenix Youth Shelter
"When I became a resident at the Phoenix Shelter I had no place to go and few belongings to call my own. Being at the Shelter was probably the best thing for me at that time because I received the time and support in order to set the goals that I wanted to accomplish for myself... Today I live in the Supervised Apartment Program, I have just completed a pre-university course at Henson College with a B plus average and I am taking courses at Dalhousie University in September."

A Safe Haven from the Street
Phoenix's Emergency Youth Shelter provides homeless youth with short-term emergency housing and offers an exit from street-life. This 20 single room facility was established in December 2001 to provide safe accommodation to 15 male and five female residents. Since opening, the Shelter is full almost every night of the year.
Services offered through Phoenix's Emergency Youth Shelter include counselling and therapeutic support, crisis intervention, on-site health care, social skills development and clothing, food and other daily essentials. In addition, staff provide residents with support and guidance in areas such as housing, education and career exploration, income assistance, physical and mental health assessments and treatments, substance abuse counselling, parenting support, recreational opportunities, and volunteer involvement.
Follow-up support and advocacy is also provided to youth leaving the Shelter.
