St. Paul's Home
Since the inception of Phoenix Youth Programs, St. Paul's Home has stood by our side offering facilities to foster our programs and offset costs to the community. In 1984 when our first program, Phoenix House, was planned St. Paul's Home stepped foward to offer a large building on Hunter Street for long-term use. In addition to providing the house which eventually became home to 10 youth, St. Paul's Home assisted with extensive renovations and upgrading to make the building suitable for this new purpose.
St. Paul's Home's gift was the turning point, which contributed to the ultimate successful opening of Phoenix House in 1987. It was this commitment to the project and the philosophical principles that began to invoke the support of the municipal and provincial levels of government for the project.
St. Paul's Home has been actively involved in our ongoing response to the needs of at-risk and homeless youth. In 1994, when we dreamed of opening Phoenix Centre for Youth, a drop-in centre, St. Paul's Home once again came to our aid offering us a building at 6035 Coburg Road which is also our administrative centre.
A few years ago, Halifax was identified as one of the 10 areas in Canada needing an immediate response to homelessness. One of the priorities was youth homelessness. An emergency youth shelter was considered a top priority. Once again Phoenix Youth Programs called on the generosity and support of St. Paul's Home to secure a location that would become a shelter for 20 homeless youth. Located at 1094 Tower Road, the building has been extensively renovated to accommodate the needs specific to a youth shelter and was opened in December 2001.
The dedication St. Paul's Home provides Phoenix Youth Programs is unprecendented and their contribution to our community unparalleled.
Canadian Progress Club Halifax Cornwallis
The Canadian Progress Club Halifax Cornwallis has been one of Phoenix Youth Programs' most dedicated and generous supporters.
The Canadian Progress Club Halifax Cornwallis has hosted 20 Women of Excellence Awards. This event honors outstanding women who play an important role in our professional community and raises well over $40,000 for Phoenix Youth Programs each year.
The club's support of Phoenix Youth Programs goes beyond financial support as the individual members act as our ambassadors throughout the community by telling others of our youths' needs and helping us to dispel some of the myths of homelessness. In fact they are part of the Phoenix family through volunteering; members attend other special events benefiting Phoenix Youth Programs; they are active at social events for volunteers; and most importantly they dedicate time to the youth. One annual event hosted by the club is a bowling and pizza night where youth in our residential programs are treated to a night of fun and relaxation.
Churches
The Church Committee has been an important part of Phoenix Youth Programs since our first program opened in 1987. The committee members who represent a variety of denominations raise money in their respective church communities, consistently providing Phoenix Youth Programs annually an average of $15,000. This goes a long way towards helping with our food budget each year.
They also coordinate their church communities to donate healthy snacks for hungry youth at Phoenix Centre for Youth in support of our Food for Phoenix program which represents an additional $5,000 value. Their efforts have provided countless guest speaking opportunities to share the "Phoenix story" which in turn has created extended interest and increased support for our work. Each member is not only a dedicated volunteer but an ambassador for the important work we do.
Service Clubs
Across Nova Scotia members of service clubs raise funds and donate them to Phoenix Youth Programs. The tremendous support that service clubs offer us is a strong indication that communities understand that youth from all over the province come to us for assistance.
Corporations
Corporations actively support our requests for financial support. As our needs have grown over the years we have been very fortunate to partner with many local and national companies to help us raise the vital funds needed to support immediate programming as well as special projects.
Foundations
Local and national private foundations whose charitable giving mandate matches the mission of Phoenix Youth Programs offer us crucial funding to sustain our programs over the long- term.
