Volunteer Opportunities

Meal Preparer - Phoenix House and Phoenix Youth Shelter provide the food and the kitchen but require volunteers to prepare supper and weekend brunches. Volunteers can be guests for the meal and help clean up afterwards.

Commitment: 2 hours/week

Maintenance Volunteer - We are committed to providing a comfortable, pleasant and safe environment for our youth, volunteers, staff and the general public. We have six facilities that require the knowledge and energy of volunteers who have their own tools, and are capable of painting, fixing, removing snow, carpentry, etc.

Commitment: As needed - flexible.

Office Support Volunteer - Our offices, especially the administrative office, can be very busy. If you are interested in office work such as assisting with mail outs, special event preparation, organizing, photocopying, etc., we have dynamic work environments that can benefit from your support.

Commitment: 2 hours/wk, Mon-Fri mornings or afternoons

Fund Development Volunteer - If you have an interest in fundraising or public relations please be sure to let us know. Opportunities depend on the time of year and where we are in our strategic plan. We could be recruiting volunteers to sit on a fundraising committee, to help out before, during or after a special event, to assist with public relations projects or office support.

  • Commitment: depends on the position and project.

Transportation Volunteer – If you have a truck you could make a huge contribution to our programs. We can use your help to pick up project supplies and large donations such as furniture and appliancesor to help us with fundraising events. We offer a travel allowance to help cover your costs.

Commitment: As needed - flexible. 

Gardener – We have 5 residences where our youth live and all of them have lawns, flower boxes, and vegetable and flower gardens of various sizes. We can use the time and expertise of volunteers who would like to help us care for our plant life and maintain attractive properties.

  • Commitment: May – October, 2 hours/wk, flexible hours

Walk In Centre Assistant: If you are interested to be in a busy environment you could be assisting with the day-to-day activities of the walk-in resource centre. Responsibilities incluide answering the door and taking donations from the public. Ensuring that the refreshment area is well stocked and clean. Cleaning the kitchen and common areas, stocking supplies and monitoring client traffic.

Commitement: 2 hrs/week.

Child Care Assistant: If you enjoy working with children you can help out with childcare for those parents who are participating in the parent support program. Responsibilities include planning activities for children and keeping then engaged. Children are of age groups 6 months to 6 years.

  • Commitement: 2 hrs once a week, morning or afternoons for 6-8 weeks. There are about 4 -5 sessions of 6-8 weeks once a year.

Specific Knowledge & Skill Sets - There are times when we offer youth learning programs or are working on a project that requires a specific skill set. If you are knowledgeable about a certain subject or have skills to offer that are different from those found in the positions above, it could be that your abilities would still be an asset to our Association.
