Development Officer, Capital Campaign

FULL-TIME, TERM

TERM PERIOD: 3 years with the possibility of an extension.

Position Overview: Reporting to the Director of Capital Campaign, the Development Officer (Capital Campaign) will fundraise for Phoenix’s Multi-Service Housing Centre Capital Campaign. They will engage with an array of Phoenix supporters and prospects, conducting research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship processes. Working closely with the Director of Capital Campaign, the Development Officer will conduct research, draft proposals, support event planning, and enact relationship stewardship and communications. This role will contribute to the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of Phoenix’s capital campaign to create the Multi-Service Housing Centre.

The Development Officer (Capital Campaign) will also support overall Phoenix fundraising efforts. They will work in close collaboration and coordination with the Fund Development team, contribute to and maintain the supporter database, and contribute to annual fundraising goals.

Reports to: Director of Capital Campaign.

Location:Based out of the Administration Office at 5880 Spring Garden Road, Halifax, NS. Due to the nature of this position, some remote work flexibility may be offered. The work environment is an office-based workspace with individual, closed-space offices.

Compensation: Annual salary range of $70,000-$75,000, comprehensive group medical insurance plan, Employee and Family Assistance Program, 3% Employer paid RRSP contribution, 3 weeks of vacation in the first year and 4 weeks of vacation in the second year, generous wellness leave, a generous paid holiday schedule, in-house trainings, and professional development opportunities.

Hours of Work:40 hours per week, generally Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. with occasional evening and weekends to attend events.

Screening Requirements:Due to the sensitive nature of our work with youth, this position is subject to a satisfactory criminal record check including a vulnerable sector search, a child abuse register check and proof of education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As an integral member of the Capital Campaign team, the Development Officer (Capital Campaign) will:

  • Contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of fundraising activities.

  • Identify, build, and sustain relationships with donors and partners in collaboration with Fund Development team.

  • Prepare research and background documents for the Capital Campaign and broader Fund Development team.

  • Prepare and deliver high-quality proposals, presentations and other communications materials for prospects, donors, and partners.

  • Support gift processing, campaign database management, and gift receipting.

  • Support the Director of Capital Campaign to engage and mobilize senior volunteers in support of fundraising initiatives.

  • Provide donor stewardship through impact reporting and stewardship plans.

  • Collaborate with broader Fund Development team regarding funder communications, solicitation, and stewardship.

  • Commit to continued learning and growth. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent research, writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Resourceful and flexible with an ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

  • Comfortable with networking and has a natural ability to build meaningful relationships; confident and eager to engage supporters and community members in a meaningful way.

  • A high level of integrity and a commitment to respecting confidentiality.

  • Experience with Client Relationship Management (CRM) software, such as Raiser’s Edge or similar databases.

  • Understanding of youth social justice issues.

  • Dedication and openness to continuous learning.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in Fundraising, Philanthropy, Non-Profit Management, Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or other humanities-focused field.

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in fundraising, development, donor relations, philanthropy, or community engagement. Capital Campaign experience is preferred.

  • Experience supporting areas such as major gifts, donor cultivation, stewardship, grant/proposal writing, or other significant fundraising initiatives is essential.

  • Experience working with a fundraising CRM/database, such as Raiser’s Edge/NXT database or a similar system is an asset.
